PBEM Players Spotlight Interview: June 2007

The first Spotlight interview is online! This month it features Andy Longman, moderator for the PBEM game Blue Dwarf. He has some very interesting thoughts on the different aspects of PBEM gaming as well as plenty of stories and interesting characters to share with us!

Check it out now, PBEM Players Spotlight Interview!

New article section

I opened up a new article section today, Spotlight. It will, over time, be filled with interesting interviews with interesting players and fact-filled profiles of games and clubs. While this website focuses on PBEM games, some of these interviews and profiles will be about other types of online roleplaying too. This is because it is done in cooperation with another fantastic initiative and website, the Simming Leaguge.

New article: Character vs. action driven posts

I just posted a new article to the PBEMPlayers.com website.

One, of many, ways to categorize PBEM posts is to see if they are driven forward by the use of characters or by action. While both types are perfectly valid and accepted, players often find themselves being more comfortable with one of them. They do, however, present different possibilities and problems.

- "Character vs. action driven posts" on PBEMPlayers.com

From my experience, I have seen two types of writing. Either posts that are very centered around the characters, how they react, interact and evolve or posts about what goes on around the characters - the action.

While they are both perfectly fine, they are at their best in different situations and we all have a personal style that uses aspects from them both. The problems arises when you use one style too much, and this is what I hope you will learn from reading the article.

I know I write my posts centered around the action. I know this and I will try to keep this in mind when I continue my PBEM posts. I am sure I can become an even better PBEM player if I learn how to use them both.

So, read the Character vs. action driven posts article on PBEMPlayers.com!

New PBEMPlayers website!

First of all, Happy New Year! And since it's a new year, I figured this would be a good time to launch the new PBEMPlayers website! It has been completely rebuilt, from the ground up. I hope this design will load faster and suit everyone's screens better while letting me have more flexability with where to place the contents.

As you can see I have interegrated my (new-ish) blog into the main website and I have big plans for further improvements! If you have any ideas or if you are missing anything, please contact me!

I hope this year will be a great year for the PBEM community and all the games out there. Take care, and have fun!

Website redesign

I am starting to run out of screen space with the theme I am using for pbemplayers.com so I need to start thinking about making a new theme for it. I would like to make a liquid layout that stretches along with the webbrowser window. I would also like to maintain pretty much the same color scheme, at least the green color!

If you have any ideas or suggestions, please let me know!

My directory of PBEM links

I recieve a lot more link directory suggestions than the ones I have published. There are a couple of reasons why not all of the suggestions are put online. Most of these are so obvious to me, I never even thought about having to write them down on the link page. I almost can't believe how ignorant some poeple are!

First, it helps to actually have a webpage to show. One of the submissions I recieved was for an almost empty page with link to two pdf docs. I have no idea what value it would provide my visitors!

Another thing that can be quite good to remember is to have a website that is available to all visitors! I have recieved link suggestions pointing to forums. Sure, I suppose the definition of a website includes forums, and role playing games can take place on forums. However, why would I link to a forum that locks out unregistered readers like myself?

Yet another thing some people have problems with is to recognize the difference between a link directory and a reqruitment site! I have recieved link descriptions filling almost a full page! Before submitting a link, it is often a good idea to first see how the link already there are formatted! If you want to submit a reqruitment ad, go to pbem2.com or something!

My webpage is in english, all the links are to english websites. English is the main language of the web. I will not publish a link to a webpage I have no idea what it says. If your page isn't in english, don't bother adding it!

In the end, you will perhaps have an easier time if you also link to me... but it is by no means a requirement or even something I actively check. But if I happen to stumble on the link while checking your webpage, of course I will like it more!
