How long before an inactive member is removed from your game?

Having active members is extremely important to your game. Sometimes, members will just drop out, often without warning, because their real lives suddenly become busier, or thye get bored of your game.

Keeping these members around is bad for the game, as it means you might be waiting for them, so at some point you have to cut your losses and remove them from the game.

So how much time should you give a player before you remove them from the game?

This is often a difficult question... Sometimes I have key characters which I build events around to draw the particular player into the game as well as build teamwork and some sort of bonding for all the players. But I try to give at least a few days and some correspondance before just cutting them off - I also look at repeated patterns (ie if the player does it frequently - after the second time I begin to weed out their character's involvement or plan to have them fade off as an NPC)...

But you must know your players and know if the disruption is causing an issue...

Sure, so I suppose like a lot of things, communication is the key. I usually give them two weeks, in case they're on holiday. But some people might need longer, I'd give them an extension as long as they told me there was a good reason why they can't post.
